What parts work is

Most people already talk this way: part of me wants to leave, part of me is terrified to. Parts work takes that seriously. The inner critic, the people-pleaser, the part that procrastinates and the part that panics usually developed for a reason, often to protect you when you were young.

Instead of trying to get rid of them, we get to know them, understand what they are protecting, and help them ease off. Underneath, there are often younger parts carrying old pain. Those get attention too, carefully.

Who it suits

  • People with a harsh inner critic or perfectionism
  • People-pleasers and fawners
  • Adults from narcissistic or chaotic families
  • People who understand their patterns but still cannot change them

How I use it

I use an IFS-informed approach, often alongside EMDR or attachment work. Some sessions are entirely parts work. In others it is one tool among several.

Sessions are $180 for 60 minutes after a $200 initial assessment. I am in network with Anthem, Aetna and United through Alma, and provide superbills for other plans. See all fees.

Questions

Are you IFS-certified?

I use parts work informed by IFS rather than offering formal IFS certification-track therapy. If you specifically want a certified IFS therapist, ask in your consult and I can help you find one.

Is parts work the same as multiple personalities?

No. Everyone has parts. It is a way of understanding normal inner conflict.

Can parts work help with ADHD?

Yes. Many ADHD adults have strong protector parts formed by years of criticism. Working with them can reduce shame and paralysis.
