What DBT is

Dialectical behavior therapy teaches four sets of skills: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation and interpersonal effectiveness. The "dialectic" is holding two things at once: accepting yourself as you are, and working to change.

Who it helps

  • ADHD emotional dysregulation and rejection sensitivity
  • People who go from zero to a hundred and regret it later
  • Trauma survivors who swing between overwhelm and shutdown
  • People-pleasers learning to ask for what they need and say no

How I use it

I am DBT-trained and use DBT skills in individual therapy, chosen for what you are dealing with. This is not a full DBT program, which also includes a weekly skills group and phone coaching. If you need that level of support, I will help you find it.

Sessions are $180 for 60 minutes after a $200 initial assessment. I am in network with Anthem, Aetna and United through Alma, and provide superbills for other plans. See all fees.

No. I use DBT skills in individual sessions.

How quickly do DBT skills help?

Some skills help right away in a crisis. Others take practice over weeks.
